Nottsbus On Demand: using the service
Nottsbus On Demand is a flexible bus service that helps people travel around parts of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire where regular bus services may be limited. Instead of following a fixed route, the service responds to local demand and picks passengers up from nearby bus stops or designated pick-up points.
If you need to use the replacement Travel Derbyshire on Demand service, here’s how to book your journey now it is operated by Nottsbus On Demand.
The easiest way to use Nottsbus On Demand is through the free app. You can use the app to book your journey, see available travel options, check your pick-up point and track your vehicle in real time.
Where can I download the Nottsbus On Demand app?
You can download the Nottsbus On Demand app for free from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. The app is provided by Via, a software company that specialises in demand responsive travel.
How do I book a journey using the app?
Once you have downloaded the app and created an account, you can book a journey by following these steps:
- Choose your pick-up and drop-off locations. You can do this by moving the green pin on the map or by typing the addresses into the app. You will also be asked to confirm how many passengers are travelling.
- The app will check for available vehicles and match you with the best option for your journey. To confirm your booking, select ‘Book This Journey’. If there is a local bus service that can get you to your destination instead, the app will show you that option.
- The app will then show you the nearest bus stop or designated pick-up point. This may be a short walk from the address you entered, so please check the location carefully before you travel. If your location services are turned on, the app will show a dotted line to help you find your pick-up point. You will meet your driver in a Nottsbus On Demand branded vehicle, and the app will also show the vehicle make and registration number so it is easy to recognise.
Please allow extra time during busy periods — Waiting times can vary depending on demand. We aim to get a bus to your stop or designated pick-up point within 60 minutes. If all buses are busy, you may see a message saying that no seats are currently available. If this happens, please check the app again after around 10 minutes. The app updates in real time, so new journeys will appear as soon as a bus becomes available.
If you need to arrive by a certain time, we recommend choosing an earlier arrival time when you book. This will help allow for any delays or busier travel periods.
