'Mayor Claire's Summer of Sport' is here for all to get involved.

Running from 1 June to 31 August 2026, the Mayor aims to encourage more people across the region to get active and take part in sport, exercise and active travel as a way of developing habits and hobbies that contribute to a healthy, active lifestyle.
The incitive will place particular emphasis on the importance of sport for young people, and especially young girls, helping them to build confidence, resilience, teamwork and ambition. It will also highlight the value of playing sports more visible, accessible and inclusive for communities across the region.

Mayor Claire Ward:

“The East Midlands is a fantastic region for sport. From our legendary sporting history to our world-class venues, we’ve got it all. With so many of the world’s biggest sporting events, like the FIFA World Cup, Wimbledon and the Commonwealth Games, taking place simultaneously this summer, I can’t think of a better time to celebrate what sport can do for our communities.

“This summer, I will be encouraging the people of the East Midlands to get out there and take part in the Mayor’s Summer of Sport. Whether it’s watching an event, trying out a new activity or simply enjoying a walk or wheel in the sunshine, there’s something for everyone.”
