Trent Sports District

A city of sport

The Trent Sports District is set to become a major driver of growth for Nottingham and the wider East Midlands – forming a key part of the Trent Arc opportunity area.

Built around one of the UK’s strongest clusters of sports, leisure and waterfront assets, the Trent Sports District will bring these strengths together to support regeneration, attract investment and create a better-connected place for residents, visitors and businesses.

The area already benefits from internationally recognised sports venues, such as Nottingham Forest Football Club‘s City Ground Stadium, Trent Bridge Cricket Ground and the National Water Sports Centre, strong transport links and a unique riverside setting.

What's our plan?

We are shaping the next chapter of the Trent Sports District, with the Strategic Regeneration Framework.

This study is exploring how the area’s unique combination of world-class sporting assets, leisure and visitor destinations, waterfront setting, transport connections and development opportunities could support sustainable growth across Nottingham and the wider East Midlands.

The project team has completed an initial review of the area. This looked at:

  • Planning policy and emerging strategies
  • Transport and connectivity
  • The waterfront, public realm and open spaces
  • Land ownership and development constraints
  • Existing development activity

What's next?

The next stage of the work will identify and test a range of opportunities for the district. This will explore how investment and development could support economic growth, improve connectivity, enhance public spaces and create places where people want to live, work, visit and spend time.

The ambition is for the Trent Sports District to evolve into a vibrant, well-connected destination that builds on its existing strengths while creating new opportunities for Nottingham and the wider region. The framework will consider how stronger links between sport, education, business, communities and the waterfront can help unlock the district’s long-term potential.
