Residents across the East Midlands are encouraged to play their part in one of the world’s biggest sporting events as the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift comes through our region in 2027.

The race will pass through parts of Derbyshire and the Peak District, giving communities across the East Midlands a chance to be part of a truly historic moment.

With thousands of spectators expected to line the route, it is a fantastic opportunity for residents to show their support, celebrate our region on a global stage and get involved as volunteers.

Race organisers have now launched a nationwide call for volunteers, known as JOY Makers, who will help bring the event to life and create a warm welcome for riders, visitors and fans.

The Tour de France has launched a search for volunteers to support the Grand Depart in the UK in 2027.
Volunteers – known as JOYmakers – are wanted to help make the 2027 Grands Départs a success.

The search is now on to find 9,000 volunteers – no previous volunteering experience is needed, and a range of roles will be available to help support the smooth running of the event and enhance the spectator experience.

For the East Midlands, the race is about much more than sport. It is a chance to showcase the beauty of our towns, villages and landscapes, highlight the pride of our communities, and encourage more people to come together and be part of something amazing.

‘International spotlight’

Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward says having the race through the Peak District is a fantastic moment for the region and one that will put the East Midlands in the spotlight.

The Mayor said: “It’s fantastic that the Tour de France Femmes will pass through our region in 2027, putting the East Midlands – and in particular the Peak District – firmly in the international spotlight. This is one of the world’s most iconic sporting events, and hosting part of the route is something our communities can be incredibly proud of.”

Volunteering is a great way for local people to get involved first-hand, gain new skills, meet new people and help create a memorable experience for everyone visiting the region. It is also a chance for communities to show the warm welcome the East Midlands is known for, while helping to build excitement ahead of the event.

You can apply now to be a JOY Maker for any of the six stages of the 2027 Grands Départs via www.letourgb.com/volunteer with registrations open until Tuesday 1 September 2026.

The Tour de France Femmes route through the Peak District is expected to attract large crowds and worldwide attention, bringing a boost for local businesses, visitor destinations and the wider regional economy. It also offers a lasting opportunity to inspire more people to get active and enjoy cycling long after the race has passed through.

Applications to become a volunteer are now open, and residents across the East Midlands are being encouraged to sign up, show their support and be part of a once-in-a-generation event. To get involved, visit letourgb.com/volunteer.
