Mayor Claire to appoint Active Travel Ambassador

Active travel - two cyclists

Claire Ward, Mayor of the East Midlands, has set out plans to appoint an Active Travel Ambassador for the region.

The role will support active travel initiatives undertaken by the newly formed East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), which covers Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Derby and Nottingham.

Working closely with Mayor Claire, the East Midlands Active Travel Ambassador will act as a champion for sustainable transport alternatives like walking and cycling, as part of wider plans to ensure the region meets the challenge of net zero.

Mayor Claire said: “Working together towards a greener East Midlands is front and centre of my ambition to make this the best place to live, to work and to learn.

“I am inspired to see so many residents and businesses across our region getting involved in active travel – whether that’s walking, cycling or wheeling – and playing their part in securing a more sustainable future for us all.

“I am therefore delighted to announce that the East Midlands Combined County Authority, which I chair and lead, will be appointing an Active Travel Ambassador.

“A key part of the role will be to make sure active travel options are available to everyone across our region, making sure no one is left behind or held back as we make the transition to net zero.”

Further details on this role will be available on the EMCCA website in the coming weeks.
