Reinstate the A38 and A46 upgrades: join the campaign
The Government has proposed withdrawing funding for the upgrades to the A38 and A46 to fill a gap in the defence budget: I cannot let this happen.
There is a good reason why these investments were a priority for the East Midlands: because they will deliver on the Government’s aspirations for growth in every postcode. I want a strong country that can defend itself, but a strong country has strong infrastructure.
We are writing to Government to make the case, again, for these upgrades – focusing on four points:
- Both routes have high levels of congestion and cause delays for people travelling on them.
- Both routes blend the national and the local – connecting the East Midlands to national networks whilst also helping local journeys to be smoother. This serves the wider economy by ensuring goods can flow and services can be delivered.
- The routes support growth in important sectors for the national economy, including defence, manufacturing, engineering, aerospace, transport, and logistics.
- Both roads will support the delivery of nearly 100,000 new homes across Derby, South Derbyshire, Amber Valley, Erewash, and Newark and Sherwood.
If you agree with us that these roads should be back in line for investment, join us. Put your name behind the response and tell the Government that the East Midlands can only contribute to the nation’s strength if it too is strengthened.
