Mayor working to ‘reduce impact on passengers’ over changes to Chesterfield bus services
The Mayor of the East Midlands is working with partners to minimise the impact on passengers after changes to a number of North Derbyshire bus services were announced by Stagecoach Yorkshire.
The bus operator has announced a number of changes affecting bus routes across Chesterfield and surrounding areas, with the changes set to take place from Sunday, October 25.
As the Local Transport Authority for Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) is working to minimise disruption for passengers and secure replacement bus services wherever possible. Some affected routes have already been addressed through diverting other services, while work continues to identify solutions for the remaining journeys.
‘We are working to try to find solutions’
Mayor Claire Ward said: “I am aware of the changes to a number of Stagecoach Yorkshire bus services and understand how concerning this is for local people who rely on them. This is a commercial decision made by Stagecoach, but we are working to try to find solutions to reduce the impact on passengers.
“A handful of short-term, but immediate solutions have already been agreed, and we have a dedicated webpage available up to keep residents informed. While these measures will help preserve important connections, I recognise they do not fully replace the existing services withdrawn by Stagecoach Yorkshire.
“Our transport team are continuing to assess the wider impact of the proposals, including options for Staveley. They are working closely with operators to explore further solutions. We remain committed to supporting reliable public transport across the East Midlands and will provide further information as soon as we have them.”

Changes to bus services
Announcing “changes to services in Chesterfield from Sunday 25 October“, Stagecoach said: “We are making some service changes from the above date.
“Several bus services will have amended timetables to improve punctuality.
“As our costs also continue to rise we have had to make some changes affecting poorly used parts of our network.
“These changes have been designed to have the minimum adverse impact on our customers, while ensuring we can continue to offer a high standard of service and good value for money.”
