More roads, footpaths and neighbourhood improvements will be delivered across Nottingham after £7 million of funding was secured through the Mayor of the East Midlands.
The funding will support the fourth year of Nottingham City Council’s Streets for People programme which aims to make getting around Nottingham neighbourhoods easier through road and footpath resurfacing, traffic and road safety improvements, new benches, bin replacements and investment in trees.
Between now and 2028 the programme will deliver improvements to 84 roads and 12 footpaths, carry out tree improvements in 18 wards, fund eight new cycle crossings and junction improvements, 13 road safety schemes and 10 traffic management schemes.
Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, said: “When I visit communities across Nottingham, I see how much local streets matter. Smoother roads, safer crossings, better footpaths and greener streets are not minor improvements, they help people get to work, take children to school, visit family and use local shops.
“That’s why we are delivering £7m through the East Midlands Combined County Authority and national government, as part of a wider £13.67m investment over four years in Nottingham’s Streets for People programme. This will support visible improvements, from resurfacing roads and footpaths to safer walking and cycling routes. I know these changes will make a real difference for residents, creating safer streets, easier journeys and benefits people can see close to home.”
Since Streets for People launched in 2022, the scheme has resurfaced or improved 223 roads, 86 footpaths and planted or rejuvenated 290 trees across Nottingham.

Streets for People has confirmed funding to allow it to continue into 2027/28 (£34million) and 2028/29 (£45million) to support future improvements.
