Mayor welcomes £140 million Rolls-Royce investment to Derby

The Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward has welcomed confirmation that Rolls-Royce will invest more than £140 million in Derby, as part of a major UK-wide investment programme. 

The investment will see new engineering and manufacturing services facilities developed at Rolls-Royce’s Derby site, helping to support future growth, improve working environments and strengthen the city’s position at the heart of the UK’s aerospace sector. Additional investment in aftermarket support operations will also boost capacity and improve efficiency, with the programme expected to be completed by 2028. 

Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward said: 

“I am absolutely thrilled that the chancellor has announced that Rolls Royce have committed another £140m into their sites at Derby.  

“Rolls-Royce plays a vital role in our regional economy, supporting thousands of skilled jobs and helping drive innovation, manufacturing excellence and economic growth. 

“This investment is a strong vote of confidence in both the company and the East Midlands, reinforcing Derby’s reputation as a global hub for advanced manufacturing, engineering excellence and innovation.” 

The Derby investment forms part of a wider £300 million programme announced by Rolls-Royce across sites in Derby, Bristol, Glasgow, Rotherham and Warwickshire. The company says the investment will strengthen the UK’s aerospace and defence capabilities, support future growth, and help ensure its world-leading engineering and manufacturing facilities remain at the forefront of innovation for decades to come.

The Chancellor announced a £300 million investment programme by Rolls-Royce earlier today (Monday 28 September).

Rolls-Royce’s Derby campus is the home of its Civil Aerospace operations and serves as a global centre for design, engineering, advanced manufacturing and testing for its Trent engine programmes. The new investment will help ensure the site remains at the forefront of aerospace innovation and manufacturing for decades to come.
