Transport for City Regions (TCR)

East Midlands Combined County Authority have been awarded £2 Billion for Transport for City Regions schemes for 2026-2032

As a Mayoral Combined Authority, EMCCA is eligible for Transport for City Regions schemes, which is a consolidated fund from the DfT awarded exclusively to the Combined Authorities in England.

A £2bn award has been allocated to the EMCCA region for the period of 2026-2032 to enable transformational investment in local transport infrastructure across all modes, provide longer-term funding certainty and enhance EMCCA’s ability to integrate maintenance with longer term, strategic investment and improvements to existing infrastructure. EMCCA have been granted early access to £66 million, enabling work to start in the current financial year.

In addition to government grants, EMCCA will also seek to leverage external funding through partnerships with the private sector where appropriate.

The TCR programme provides multi-year, consolidated funding settlements to enhance the local transport networks of some of England’s largest city regions, including investment in public and sustainable transport infrastructure. The objectives of the fund are:

  • Continuing to drive growth and productivity through investment in integrated transport networks
  • Transforming infrastructure to support the delivery of new homes and improve access to opportunity for all
  • Decarbonising transport and enabling healthy living, including promoting modal shift from cars to public transport, walking and cycling
