The East Midlands Combined County Authority is just a week away from launching an ambitious vision for growth at the UK’s biggest development, investment and regeneration event, UKREiiF
Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, will lead a regional delegation at the event, which takes place in Leeds and routinely attracts more than 15,000 delegates from the national and international development and investment industry.
The region will come together at UKREiiF in an East Midlands Pavilion for the first time, where Mayor Claire will launch the new Spatial Vision, which will guide a series of massive development opportunities that are expected to deliver:
The Spatial Vision includes major developments in Derby and Nottingham, the UK’s £410m STEP Fusion nuclear energy pilot project at West Burton, and a series of opportunities taking in the region’s towns and villages and its key tourism destinations.
Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward said: “This is the start of a step-change in the performance of the East Midlands economy, which combines industries that matter to the whole of the UK and projects critical to our future energy security.
“These opportunities will be game-changers for the East Midlands and the UK as a whole, and our spatial vision provides a clear roadmap for joined-up delivery that matches investment to infrastructure and skills.
“At UKREiiF we will be starting conversations with development partners who can help us deliver on the huge untapped potential of a hyper-connected region that will have a major role to play in the UK’s future economic growth.”
Mayor Claire and a team from the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) will be joined by partner organisations from across the region, including East Midlands Freeport, Destination Chesterfield, Marketing Derby Invest in Nottingham and Invest in Derbyshire.
They will hold a series of set piece events at the East Midlands Pavilion to showcase specific development opportunities. There will also be private gatherings where Mayor Claire will be talking to potential investors and developers.
Amy Harhoff, Chief Executive of EMCCA, added: “This is going to be a landmark year for the East Midlands at UKREiiF.
“We have a £55 billion economy and we’re a region of global strengths in key industries like aerospace, automotive, life sciences and clean energy. Investing here means joining a powerful ecosystem of industry, talent and ambition – the foundation of the UK’s future prosperity.
“It’s time for us to harness the heft of that economy. The spatial vision we’ll be unveiling next week gives us the roadmap we need to deliver with confidence.”
People attending UKREiiF can book their place at sessions in the East Midlands Pavilion through the EMCCA UKREiiF portal – www.eastmidlands-cca.gov.uk/ukreiif/
