Have your say on new 150km hydrogen pipeline that will power industry across Nottinghamshire and beyond

Aerial shot of the area where the proposed hydrogen pipeline will go

From Tuesday 3rd March, people will be able to have their say on early plans for a major new hydrogen pipeline. H2East Pipeline: Humber to Nottinghamshire will play a vital role in retaining local jobs, encouraging inward investment, supporting hydrogen producers and decarbonising industry.

The proposed hydrogen pipeline will supply low-carbon hydrogen to key industries across the Humber, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire region. Largely underground, the H2East Pipeline: Humber to Nottinghamshire will run for about 150km (93 miles) from Immingham on the Lincolnshire coast to Newark, Nottinghamshire. It will also include some above ground infrastructure at certain points along the route.

The project is part of East Coast Hydrogen, a collaboration between Cadent, National Gas and Northern Gas Networks to connect planned hydrogen production and storage with industrial users.

Hydrogen pipeline public consultation open between 3rd March and 16th April

The proposals could mean manufacturers of steel, chemicals, bricks, food and more will be able to switch from natural gas, which largely consists of methane, to low-carbon hydrogen.

Industrial users who have already expressed an interest in connecting to the pipeline once it has been built include British Sugar, British Steel, Forterra, Heidelberg Materials, Knauf, Lenzing, Singleton Birch, Tayto and Tronox, with potential hydrogen producers including Uniper and HyMarnham Power. Located at High Marnham, one of the Trent Supercluster sites, HyMarnham Power is the largest green hydrogen producer in the country.

During the consultation, Cadent will be presenting its plans and asking people for their views on the proposals including details on thehydrogen pipeline route. The public consultation will run for six weeks, until Tuesday 14th April, with plenty of opportunities for everyone to have their say.
