Mayor’s Big Transport Conversation – join 2,000 others and have your say

There is just one month to go to have your say on the Mayor's Transport Plan in the Mayor's Big Transport Conversation.

Thousands of people have already had their say on future transport plans for the region in the Mayor’s Big Transport Conversation – but time is running out for those yet to share their views.

Fewer potholes, simpler ticketing and more frequent buses are just some of the transport improvements suggested by people across the East Midlands.

However, there is just one month to go in the region’s biggest-ever listening exercise on the future of transport. And the Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward is urging residents, businesses and community groups from across the region to ensure they have their say before the consultation ends on 8 February.

Mayor Claire said: “Since launching The Mayor’s Big Transport Conversation, engagement has been fantastic, with more than 2,000 responses received so far. People across the East Midlands are making it clear exactly what they want to see in their transport network.

“I am particularly keen to hear from younger people, people of colour, and people in Bassetlaw, Bolsover and Chesterfield to match the impressive volume of responses from other demographics and places.”

Frequent suggestions highlighted in the conversation so far include:

  • More frequent buses services;
  • Better connectivity across the region;
  • Fewer potholes;
  • New tram lines;
  • Safer cycling routes;
  • Easier ticketing.

From April, Mayor Claire will have the power to plan transport across the entire region into a single, integrated network – bringing together buses, trains, walking, and cycling routes under one strategic vision.

Big Transport Conversation

Now, with exactly one month left in the 12-week Big Transport Conversation consultation over the Mayor’s Transport Plan, Mayor Claire is calling on residents, employees and employers from every corner of Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to speak up.

Mayor Claire said: “Don’t miss your chance to have your say! I want to hear from every part of our region. Tell us where buses need to run, and when. Tell us where pavements and roads need improving, where cycling infrastructure isn’t good enough, or where communities feel cut off. Your feedback will help shape a transport system that works for everyone.

“We’re making good progress, but a truly fair and connected transport system can only be built with voices from every community. Whether you live or work in a rural village, a market town or a city centre, your experiences matter. This is your chance to shape how the East Midlands moves in the years ahead and I don’t want anyone to miss out on being heard.”

The Mayor’s Big Transport Conversation  runs until 8 February 2026 – have your say on the transport network you want to see here.
