Keeping the East Midlands moving – our plans for transport
Transport is not just about getting from A to B. It’s about how we grow our economy, connect our communities, and open-up opportunity.
With the powers secured through devolution, we now have the tools to reshape transport across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. As the new Local Transport Authority, we will lead a modern, joined-up transport system that works for everyone.
Our Vision
We want a transport system that’s safe and simple to use that works for everyone.
A system where buses run where and when people need them. Where paying for a journey is quick and seamless. Where walking, wheeling, and cycling are supported by high-quality routes. Where transport supports the climate, not harms it. And where it’s just as easy to get around in a rural village as it is in a city centre.
Our Mission
We exist to:
We are focused on six clear priorities to deliver a transport network that meets the needs of today and tomorrow:
1. A single plan for the region
We will create the East Midlands’ first long-term vision for buses, roads, rail, cycling and walking, shaped by the people who use them every day.
2. An ambitious investment programme
We are unlocking billions in investment to upgrade roads, stations, and link-up communities.
3. Better buses, better journeys
We will use our new powers to make buses more frequent, more reliable, and easier to use.
4. Transport that includes everyone
We’re committed to making travel affordable, accessible and safe, whether you’re in a city centre, market town or rural village.
5. Decarbonising every mile
We will accelerate the shift to low-carbon travel through greener vehicles, more cycling and walking, and cleaner infrastructure.
6. Innovation that works for people
We’ll harness data and technology to improve real-time information, smart ticketing, and journey planning, making public transport the easy choice.
